Day 13

Today we made a hike to this lovely little pond :) It was shoking when we got there and my dad told us 'All the red you see on the shore and then bottom of the pond is bones'. Yes this is an Inuit willage site. You can see at the top right corner of the picture below there are hills. Those are actualy sodd huts, there were about five of them there. The amount of bones has accumulated over time.

A fox or dog skull.

And here is what walrus caches look like. Except they are undergound. We think these ones were forgotten and then dug up the next year.

Day 12

Today we went to Igloolik point to see an open grave of an inuit family they think starved and to visit our friend Alex.

Day 11

Today was one of those days that reminds me of home. It was foggy. At one point we could see about 100m in any direction and then there was just a wall of white. We went for a hike out to the lakes just at the edge of town to do some shooting practice. First time i have ever shot a gun! It was really fun but our fingers got too cold in the mist so we decided to go home after a few rounds.

We found a whole bunch of bones by the sod houses. lots of them were halves of skulls and you could see where the brain had been and the pattern of it.

The top half of a Bowhead whale skull.

Day Three

It was very contently slushing and blowing when i woke up this morning. It was great! Why not have a crib tournament and a few cups of tea for the days excursion? That didn't last long. We went on a walk to the Northern and the Blue Building, took a few shots of some rotting belugas and made some new friends. We even might be going to the dump later!

These two Inuit sisters came up to us at the Northern and told us about them. Darla(left) is 15 and Samantha(right) is 14. They walked with us along the shore line for a good while before going home. All the people here are very friendly.

We found carpets with hole in them around the tundra near Igloolik and soon figured out that they were a golf course for the kids. We found the 'club house' soon after our discovery.

Day Two

Today we went for a walk around the outskirts of Igloolik and all the way around to Cemetery Hill, a rise we can see from our living room window. I gathered many more pictures, quardrouple the amount than yesterday. After our walk we went the the Northern groccery store and i saw a man purchase 6 cans of pop and a package of coffee filters for $30! One can of pop costs $4.19 here and theres even a Coca Cola factory in Iqaluit.
Now we are having a lovely evening watching the first episode of The Game of Thrones and awaiting the predicted snow.
